Post Earthquake Report – Nepal – 2015

On April 25th, 2015 a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. The epicenter was in Gorkha district, west of Kathmandu. Hundreds of aftershocks affected the region. Another major 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck on May 12th. This time the epicenter was bordering Dolakha and Sindhupalchowk, to the east of Kathmandu. Again hundreds of aftershocks continued to affect the region for several weeks. Over 9000 people were killed in these quakes with more than 23000 people seriously injured. Long term relief and recovery efforts will be ongoing as Nepal’s rural communities most affected continue to rebuild. Tourism will be an integral part of this recovery.
